Día de Muertos 2026: A Soulful Journey through CDMX & Puebla 🇲🇽

Día de Muertos in México is not Halloween. It is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful, deeply human, and profoundly joyful celebrations on earth, a time when México and its people honor its ancestors not with grief, but with marigolds, candlelight, favorite foods, music, and love. Join Mujer on the Move for an intimate, safety-vetted retreat in Mexico City and the state of Puebla, where the tradition runs oldest, deepest, and most magnificently alive.

01- ABOUT THE RETREAT & LOCATION

Experience the Día de Muertos like before 🇲🇽

While many see the parades of Mexico City, the true, ancestral heartbeat of Día de Muertos lives in the highlands of Puebla. This 2026 aventura is a deep immersion into the spiritual center of México's most honored tradition.

We spend the heart of our journey (four full days) nestled in Puebla Centro and its surrounding Pueblos Mágicos. You won't just see Día de Muertos, you will live it alongside the local families who have kept these traditions alive for centuries. We use CDMX as our gateway for arrival and departure, but the magic of this retreat happens under the shadow of the volcanoes in the state of Puebla.

Our aventura focuses on the three most iconic locations for Día de Muertos in the region:

  • Puebla Centro: We’ll wander the 'City of Angels,' known for its stunning tiled architecture and the most elaborate, museum-quality ofrendas in the country.

  • Atlixco (Pueblo Mágico): Famous for its 'Cempasúchil' (marigold) carpets and giant catrinas, we’ll witness the hillsides turn orange as the town prepares to welcome the souls of the departed.

  • Cholula (Pueblo Mágico): We’ll stand at the base of the world’s largest pyramid, where ancient indigenous roots and colonial traditions blend into a celebration unlike anywhere else on earth."

¡Hola Aventureras, I’m Daisy!

I'm a first-gen Mexican-American aventurera from Houston who speaks fluent English and Spanish and I'm here to be your MOTM U.S. Co-Guide, or  travel compañera, for Mujer on the Move's 2026 Día de Muertos retreat in CDMX and Puebla. I'm the type of aventurera who has fun when I know everyone else is having fun too. Your heel broke while we're out? We're making a stop to fix it. Forgot your meds at home? I'm already WhatsApping the pharmacy to get them on the way to the hotel.  I'm so excited to join you on this Mujer on the Move 2026 aventurera, aka MOTM Retreat, as your MOTM U.S. Co-Guide and I can't wait to meet you.

HISTORIC CENTRO (2 NIGHTS) & PUEBLA CENTRO (3 NIGHTS)

For this MOTM Retreat we will begin our journey in CDMX's Historic Centro. Where all Aventureras will arrive before heading to a hand-selected boutique hotel in Puebla. By splitting our stay, you get the best of both worlds: the trendy, vibrant life of the city and the traditional, colonial soul of the 'City of Angels.' Both locations are vetted for safety, comfort, and authentic charm.
